To build a timeless capsule wardrobe you should always start out with simple basics.  It may seem to some that the basic wardrobe is boring and devoid of colors. But first of all, not all women love bright colors, and such a laconic wardrobe can already be successfully worn. Secondly, it is easily complemented by accent accessories and pop of colors.

And, when someone says why should I invest into boring clothes? Well, that is because if you keep on buying colorful clothes with complicated patterns, lots of details and designs you will end up with “Oh, I don’t have anything to wear!” And, we all know every single woman goes through this!

So, what is a capsule a wardrobe? It is not a random collection of things as you might think at first. Capsule is when all of the pieces are ideally combined with each other. And each individual item that you pick, you will be able to build a whole outfit, just within those 22 items!

Basic pieces can save you lots of time when you’re in a hurry. Or when there is a stupor in your head. And, you generally don’t understand what to combine with what, so that you can finally run out of the house and not feel embarrassed about wearing something totally wrong.

Women’s basic wardrobe consists of things that are not just relevant for one season and can be easily transformed into any outfit! And if you don’t have a basic wardrobe that means that extravagant, and stylish clothes will most likely look absurd on you! However, when you combine basic clothes with something bright then the outfit looks adequate, stylish and chic!

Also, when you buy simple, basic and modern clothes you can mix and match, layer and create so many various outfits that’s why you have to INVEST your money into timeless and basic pieces. As the result, that is what you will wear the most!

There are two types of capsule wardrobes! One is a universal capsule wardrobe and second is a personal capsule wardrobe, which is more unique because it defines you and your personality!

Here is a list of all  basic wardrobe pieces that you should own. Based on this list of basic wardrobe pieces, it will not be difficult for you to create your own  optimal list, adapted to your lifestyle.

And all of the pieces that I’m linking are very budget-friendly!

How To Build A Timeless Capsule Wardrobe (checklist)

White Tee – To build a timeless capsule wardrobe you need this most versatile basic piece. This is an item you can NEVER go wrong with! Also, choose crew-neck for a more basic look. If you don’t have a white tee, you can go with any neutral color such as black, grey or beige!

White Button down – This should be a timeless piece in your wardrobe. It should be very clean and crisp with long sleeves and volume! A white button down can be mixed with anything!

For example, with something classic and black, basic black trousers, jeans or a pencil skirt. There’s just so many combinations that will take me forever to list!

Striped Long-Sleeve Shirt – is basic that Coco Chanel once introduced into fashion. It is now an integral part of the basic wardrobe and of course, which we can refer to the Parisian’s wardrobe.

Turtleneck – A very classy piece! You’ll get the most wear of it during colder seasons, so invest in a better quality turtleneck, because I’ve worn mine for over 5 years and it’s still in a really good shape!

Sweater – I advise to go with neutral tones, for example, gray  dark gray black, brown, depending on your color type and preferences.

Cardigan – Has to fit freely or oversized, useful for summer evenings!

Tank/ Camisole – This is a MUST buy! It is perfect for layering and will look very stylish under a sweater or with a jacket, blazer, cardigan or a dress with a deep neckline.

High-Waist Pants – This one is also a must! Every woman should own a pair of high-waisted pants that should sit high enough and they should slightly show the ankle.

Denim Jeans – To build a timeless capsule wardrobe you would also need a good pair of fitted jeans. They are my go-to! Can be casual or dressy, and of any color you prefer. Dense material and well-designed seams. Everyone sticks to the black denim jeans rather than to the white denim! Although, white denim jeans can be worn year round, even during cold seasons! Also, stay away from any extra details and rips. My favorite jeans are mom jeans with cropped ankle or straight jeans.

Pleated Skirt – This is a very versatile basic that every woman needs to own because you can wear during any season of the year with any type of shoes starting from heels and sandals to sneakers and loafers! Your perfect skirt can be of any length, whether you like maxi, midi or mini.

Little Black Dress – Everyone should own this iconic wardrobe staple! It’s such a great basic piece to own because you can wear it all year round with sandals, tennis shoes or boots!

Black Blazer (Neutral Blazers) – I can’t even tell you the number of times I’ve reached out to this piece in my wardrobe! It always saved me during my pregnancies when I couldn’t fit into anything and didn’t know what to wear! If you don’t have a black blazer, go with any other neutral color, which will blend very well with your wardrobe. Make sure its simple and modern, not too tight, preferably oversized! Shoulder pads are not necessary, but will definitely create more structure and a better shape!

Leather Jacket – Its definitely an item you’ll want to invest into! I highly recommend to get the best quality leather jacket because I tell you, you will wear it so many times and for so many years! Also, it has to be not too tight, not crop, and without extra details!

Trench Coat – Choose classic beige. But if beige doesn’t suit you, then go with black. Details that should be present on a classical trench coat : wide belt with buckle, crisp collar, neutral buttons and a slit at the back.

Overcoat – Can be neutral or with a little pop of color just to bring some interest to your outfit. A neutral overcoat is a staple. But, don’t forget about other rich colors such as burgundy, mustard, emerald or even pastels. Color will definitely brighten up your look on a gloomy day!

Nude Heels – Very classy and chic! A must buy for petite women because they elongate the legs!

Black Heels – Something that goes with any style, color or bottom!

Loafers / Mules – Any one of these could be your personal wardrobe essential! Remember, that if you choose to wear flats they will automatically cut your proportions no matter how tall you are! In my opinion, it’s a very comfortable wardrobe element. Although, it’s very old and outdated and there’s just so many other modern options you have to choose from!

White Sneakers – Everyone needs a  good pair of white sneakers. You’ll be able to create so many chic and comfortable outfits with just one pair of good quality shoes.

Handbag – I think every woman owns a bag, a tote or a clutch. And all you need is to have at least one handbag that is made of good quality, sturdy and neutral!
